Targeted pressure to release “muscle knots”, reduce pain and improve range of movement
About
Trigger Points, more commonly known as “muscle knots” can be caused by poor posture, injury or repetitive movements. These trigger points are tight and contracted muscles and may feel swollen, tense and tender and/or painful. They may block off blood supply to an area causing the surrounding nerves to become irritated sending pain signals to the region and beyond.
Trigger Point pain can be felt in any muscle in the body. The tense “muscle knots” are most commonly found in the back, shoulders and neck but the pain may be felt in other areas – known as referred pain.
Some symptoms of trigger points are:
- Referred Pain – including headache, toothache, earache
- Dull ache
- Pressing pain
- Burning or numbness
- Difficulty sleeping
- Fatigue
- restricted movement and range of mobility
Benefits
- Reduced pain
- Relieved muscle tightness
- Improved range of mobility
- Improved sleep
- Improved functionality of muscles
- Improved mood
- Improved circulation
- breaking down of adhesions and scar tissue
Trigger Point Release uses focussed sustained pressure on the specific areas of tension, working with the breath. It may also include myofascial release techniques and stretching.
